BJP: Karolin Klüppel, Mädchenland

Over a million photography enthusiasts worldwide read the British Journal of Photography in its print and online editions. A comprehensive article about the Gold Award Winner of the 2015 Felix Schoeller Photo Awards is now available for you to read, in which the Berlin-based artist, Karolin Klüppel, discusses her series of portraits entitled “Mädchenland” (“Kingdom of Girls”)

The online edition of the British Journal of Photography (BJP) contains an extensive feature on Klüppel’s winning portrait series “Mädchenland,” which won the Felix Schoeller Gold Award in 2015. Klüppel herself talks about her views on the concept and the creative process behind her work, which has gone on to win several international awards in the meantime. Klüppel is excited about it all: “Naturally, I’m delighted! The British Journal of Photography is a great magazine with an excellent reputation and a huge audience. It’s a great honour for me to be portrayed in such detail.” After stories that appeared in The National Geographic Magazine, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Independent and the Huffington Post, this feature has helped to raise Klüppel’s profile within the photographic community. Since its foundation in 1854, the BJP has been much more than a multi award-winning journal: it is an undisputed authority among professional photographers and photographic enthusiasts and collectors. With over a million worldwide readers of its print and online editions, the BJP is a major source of inspiration and information on innovative, contemporary photography.

In the coming weeks, the BJP will also feature Thomas Friedrich Schaefer. In 2015, Schaefer won the Felix Schoeller Photo Award’s category for “Free/conceptual photography” and, like Klüppel, went on to win further international awards.

In his own words, Schaefer requires between 200 and 300 hours to create an installation for his “Experiential Spaces” series.

The creation of articles about the contest is a component of an international, collaborative arrangement that the BJP recently entered into with the organisation behind the Felix Schoeller Photo Award.
