On 1 January, the submission period for the Felix Schoeller Photo Award 2017 begins. As of today, the updated terms and conditions of entry are available online. The upcoming award is also open to professional photographers who “earn the majority of their livelihood” not only from photography but also film creation. Michael Dannenmann, Chairman of the jury: “We thus take into account the changed production conditions under which professional photographers now work. Photographic works frequently form part of cinematic jobs and vice versa.” There have also been changes in terms of the age of the submitted works and the definition of emerging photographers.

Emerging photographers may now submit entries for up to six months after the end of their training or studies. Previously, it was a prerequisite that emerging photographers still had to be in training at the time of submitting their entries.

At the Felix Schoeller Photo Award 2017, greater value will be placed on more recent works, as the initial publication, in identical form and content, must now have taken place no more than two years ago. Here, the focus is on the term “identical form and content”, since the Award wishes to continue to allow the submission of long-term projects for which individual motifs have already been published beforehand.

The terms and conditions of entry are now also in Chinese

Up to now, the terms and conditions of entry and the technical instructions for uploading works could be viewed in five languages (German, English, French, Spanish and Portuguese). Chinese is now available as a sixth language. The aim is to raise greater awareness of the Award internationally, above all in the Asiatic region and particularly in China. Furthermore, the Chinese company Fantac Culture Development in Nanjing has been acquired as a sponsor of the Award. Fantac specialises in the printing of high-quality photographs in a very wide variety of applications.
